Healthy Futures is providing the youth of Newham with an interesting pastime activity as it is due to launch a FREE non-contact boxing session in the Froud Centre, Manor Park. The move to start The Osmani Boxing Club was made after consultation with Newham Council, the Amateur Boxing Association of England, London Youth and local residents who all agreed that the session was needed and would be of great benefit to local young people. The sessions will take place every Fridays from 4pm – 6pm, with the launch taking place on Friday 9th April 2010.
The project Manager of Healthy Futures, Muhammad Didar said “We understand that many parts of Newham are deprived and face issues such as petty crime and obesity. We felt that having a diversionary non-contact boxing session was the perfect way to engage the youth and channel their energy and enthusiasm in a positive way.”
Keep your eye on the Osmani Boxing Club and who knows, we may see the next Amir Khan emerge from right here in Newham.
